French Hospital Medical Center’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center is proud to announce a new three-class nutrition lecture series beginning in March and concluding in May.
The first of three monthly classes is titled “Nutrition Matters in the Cancer Journey” and will be offered on Thursday, March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the French Hospital Medical Center Auditorium, 1911 Johnson Avenue, San Luis Obispo. This first class will teach attendees about the protective value of a whole foods approach in their diet which may help to prevent cancer and its recurrence.
“Nutrition is a vital part of cancer treatment since eating a balanced diet of healthy foods during and after treatment can significantly help cancer patients feel better and stay stronger,” explains Angela Fissell, Registered Dietician and presenter of “Nutrition Matters in the Cancer Journey.” “Many cancer treatments such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery can cause many individuals to lose their appetite and energy.”
Angela Fissell is a Registered Dietician with more than 12 years of experience serving the dietary needs of hospitalized patients. She also specializes in counseling oncology patients on nutrition related matters. In addition, special guest naturopathic doctor Zoe Wells, ND, will also lead the community workshop. For more than 16 years, Zoe Wells has a naturopathic medical practice in San Luis Obispo.
The second class in the series will take place April 4 and is titled “Sugar: Does it Feed the Tumor?” The third class is titled “Vegetable Based Proteins” and will take place on May 9. Space is limited for the three-class series and reservations are required. To make a reservation to attend, community members are to contact French Hospital’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center at (805) 542-6234.
