In her first appearance with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Grammy-nominated violinist Jennifer Frautschi will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 on a program that also includes Stravinsky’s Petrushka on May 3, 2014, 8pm at the Christopher Cohan Center.
Creating timeless pieces of music was Beethoven’s gift to the world and his only violin concerto, rich in lyricism and vitality, is considered by many to be the most popular piece in violin literature. The San Luis Obispo Symphony closes its 2013/2014 season with Ms. Frautschi playing the magnificent concerto on her 1722“ex-Cadiz” Antonio Stradivarius violin.
Stravinsky’s Petrushka follows the Beethoven on this program. This delightful ballet music tells the story of a mischievous puppet named Petrushka, a well-known character of Russian folk puppetry. Stravinsky reveals the madcap adventures, death and ghostly return of Petrushka through lively solos by trumpets, woodwinds, and strings.
