Starting on Friday, June 28, 2013, United Way of San Luis Obispo County will host free grandparent reading circles as well as a Born Learning Trail tours every last Friday of the month. These reading and discovery times will take place at the SLO Senior Citizens Center in Mitchell Park,1445 Santa Rosa St., from 10 – 11 a.m. The dates are June 28th, July 26th, and August 30th.
This event is open to all children, parents, grandparents, and family members. We are holding this event to encourage everyday learning experiences that engage grandparents, parents, and caregivers in their child’s life and learning. We also hope to bring the community together and to bring awareness to the Imagination Library and the Born Learning Program and Trail.
The Early Learning Connection event will start off with a reading circle at the Senior Center. This will be an opportunity for grandparents, parents, caregivers to listen to a story with their children, as well as read with one another. We are specifically hoping to promote grandparent involvement in children’s early learning experiences.
After the reading circle, we will move outside to the Mitchell Park Born Learning Trail. After its first installment five years ago, the Born Learning Trail has been updated. We will be giving a tour of the newly updated hopscotch painting and trail of interactive signs that suggest fun activities for adults and children to do together in a beautiful and stimulating setting.
