KSBY TV, the NBC affiliate for the San Luis Obispo/Santa Maria/Santa Barbara television market, was honored with a regional Emmy award for “Best Evening Newscast”. The award was presented at the 39th Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards on June 15, 2013 at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, NV.

The purpose of the Emmy Awards is to recognize outstanding achievements in television. The Pacific Southwest region includes San Diego, Bakersfield, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria, California.

“The newscast was truly a collaborative, team effort by outstanding and hard – working journalists,” said President and General Manager Kathleen Choal. “For the staff and the station to be bestowed with an Emmy for that hard work is truly an achievement and an honor.”

The newscast receiving the Emmy included extensive live coverage of The Calf Fire, a wildfire that burned for several days just outside Santa Margarita, California in July of 2012.

“When breaking news like this happens, it can really push our staff both technically and physically,” said News Director Doug Barden. “This newscast represents what this team does every day to inform and connect viewers on the Central Coast. I am extremely proud of this news team.”
