The San Luis Obispo Latino Outreach Council (LOC) is proud to present a free healthcare information forum, “How to Obtain Coverage under the Affordable Care Act” (ACA) on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014. The forum will explore the challenges Latinas face while attempting to enroll in healthcare. The event will also assist Latinas with the application process – Covered California or Medi-Cal.
This healthcare forum will be held in the SLO County Government Center, Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 1055 Monterey Street in San Luis Obispo starting at 5:30 p.m. A variety of healthcare insurance representatives will make speak at the Healthcare Forum including:
- Kena C. Burke, MPP Director, Covered California Project California Medical Association Foundation whose presentation will focus on Covered California’s open enrollment process, provider network access, and other issues affecting the Latino communities.
- Jose Guzman, Work Site Health Promotion Coordinator and Behavioral Health Services Promoter Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, Inc. (CHCCC). He will discuss CHC’s outreach efforts that focus on Spanish speaking community members and their families in regards accessing healthcare.
- A representative from CenCal Health will give an update on the current status of Medi-Cal expansion in addition to updating the public on CenCal Health’s role on serving their members of the Latino community.
The Forum will be moderated by local attorney and LOC Chairperson, Jacqueline Vitti del Valle Frederick. Additionally, the following community partners will offer free healthcare educational materials and information:

- Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHCCC)

- San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services

Founded in 1994, the San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Latino Outreach Council (LOC) is a non-profit organization consists of a Policy Board of 15 individuals who represent various sectors of the community. The LOC is dedicated to facilitating the equal and full participation of all members of the Latino community in the life and affairs of the County. The Council promotes progress in the Latino community through advancement in education, participation in community affairs and in increasing knowledge about and access to relevant services. The LOC also works to identify and facilitate the removal of barriers which inhibit the Latino Community’s achievement of its goals.
