The event will be a discussion with Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship Jonathan York, local entrepreneur Eric Meyer and three recent Cal Poly graduates who are moving forward with their innovative ideas. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb 21 in the Kennedy Library’s second-floor café lounge. It is free and open to the public.
Entrepreneurs and recent graduates Jessie Becker, co-founder of InPress Technologies; Max Mero co-founder of RepairTech, Inc.; and Mark Paddon, co-founder of FireSwing Studios, will open the event by leading a discussion on what attributes make a good entrepreneur.
York, who has 30 years of experience in health care, economic development, government, politics and technology, will discuss current research on the entrepreneurial mindset. He helped create the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a campus resource that assists motivated students in starting their own business, with Meyer.
Meyer is a San Luis Obispo resident who successfully pitched his Vision Street Wear clothing idea to Vision Skateboards after college and was hired as the line’s creative director. He then created a clothing brand for MTV in the 1980s before starting Simple, a sustainably focused footwear brand.
This event is co-sponsored by Orfalea College of Business, the Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Cal Poly Entrepreneurs. For more information about “Start Me Up!” and the Science Café series, visit http://lib.calpoly.edu/science_cafe/startmeup/.
