The Cal Poly women’s cross country team and Mustang freshman Laura Hollander earned All-Academic Status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.
Cal Poly reported a cumulative team GPA of 3.265 through the fall quarter of 2012 to be among 200 schools representing 30 conferences honored. To qualify, teams had to maintain a GPA of 3.00 or better and start at least five runners at their respective regional championship meets.
Hollander, a kinesiology major, was one of 115 individuals to be bestowed Scholar Athlete distinction. To qualify, student athletes must have had a GPA of 3.25 or better and earned either USTFCCCA All-America honors or finished in the top 15 at regionals.
Hollander was named an All-American after finishing ninth at the national championship meet in November, completing the 6K course in Louisville, Ky. in 19 minutes, 45 seconds. The Big West Conference Women’s Athlete of the Year, Hollander paced the Mustangs at every meet she competed in this past season and set three course records.
