RRM Design Group a multidisciplinary architecture, planning and engineering firm, practicing in San Luis Obispo for 40 years, was recently honored with a Charlie Award for Architectural Arts for the design of the Los Angeles Regional Fire Station No. 82, a LEED® Gold certified building.

LA Fire Station 82-June 02 2012-120

The Charlie Awards are put on by the Hollywood Arts Council as a way to celebrate the arts and culture of Hollywood. Past winners in the Architectural Arts category include Paramount Pictures, Hollywood and Highland, Capital Records, Sunset + Vine, Eastman Kodak Co., and the Frances Howard Goldwyn Library. The event took place at the historic Blossom Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel this past Friday, April 5th. Other awards were given to Hudson Pacific for Preservation Arts, Capital Records for Public Arts, Theatre Arts was given to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Environmental Arts was given to the Los Angeles Beautification Team, and the Couturier Gallery was given the Visual Arts Award.

The Los Angeles Regional Fire Station No. 82 sits on the northeast corner of Hollywood Blvd. and Van Ness Ave., the gateway to Hollywood. The contemporary, three-story, fire station is an outstanding addition to the eclectic blend of architecture found along Hollywood Boulevard combining elements, materials and proportions from the Art Deco and Moderne styles. This project achieved LEED Gold certification from the USGBC and incorporates many sustainable materials and building systems including the only vegetated roofing system in the LAFD system designed to capture and treat on-site rainwater before it is piped into the storm drain system.

“This award and recognition for LA 82 is really for the Hollywood community and the citizens who voted for the LA Fire Bond,” said Candice Wong, project manager with RRM Design Group.”The 38,000 square foot station had to fit on a site that was less than one acre, include underground parking, and achieve LEED certification. The RRM team rose to the occasion and designed a project that is iconic, award winning, and an outstanding example of environmental stewardship. We are proud to have delivered such a well received and successful project for the citizens of Hollywood and firefighters of the LAFD.”
