San Luis Obipo’s Buona Tavola Restaurant celebrates and thanks their patrons for 25 years of serving fine Northern Italian cuisine with a special dinner menu, spreading love and a donation to a local children’s non-profit organization.

When Antonio Varia opened his first restaurant in San Luis Obispo on October 5, 1992 he was the chef in the kitchen and his wife, Kasie, was the hostess. Risotto, a creamy rice dish, was mostly unknown to many diners.

“People looked at the plate and said, ‘What is this? Just rice? Where’s the meat?” said Varia.

Today, after 25 years in the highly competitive restaurant business, Varia wants to thank everyone who has eaten at his restaurants over the decades. In honor of the 25th anniversary, Varia will have a special dinner menu at the San Luis Obispo location, and 25% of the night’s total will be given to the Child Development Resource Center of the Central Coast. Varia chose the non-profit because of his belief in strong families and commitment to local organizations.”

“I have a soft heart for children and want to support an organization that supports them and their families,” Varia said. “I’ve decided to donate 25% of our sales for the night in honor of our 25th anniversary.”

On Thursday, October 5, the San Luis Obispo location next to the Fremont Theater on Monterey Street will feature a special menu made up of diners’ favorites from the last 25 years. Dinner reservations on October 5th are strongly encouraged and can be made through the restaurant website at www.btslo.com or by calling 805-545-8000.

“I want to send a big thank you to the community for believing in us and for their love of good food,” he said.

Today, the original Buona Tavola restaurant in San Luis Obispo has been joined by a second one in Paso Robles, and a very successful artisan salami and sausage business, Alle-Pia Fine Cured Meats, in Atascadero. The San Luis location was remodeled in 2005 and features an intimate, hidden patio.

The Buona Tavola name means “good table” in Italian. Authentic ingredients from Italy and the freshest farmers’ market produce are used daily.
