Dow, DanTwo widely respected San Luis Obispo County Superior Court judges have publicly endorsed Dan Dow for San Luis Obispo district attorney. Retired Judges Richard Kirkpatrick and Edward Chidlaw both named Dow the best choice to replace retiring District Attorney Gerry Shea.

Currently sitting judges have not endorsed a candidate for District Attorney or in any way participated in the distribution of materials implying such endorsement.

“Dan Dow has what it takes to lead SLO County’s public safety efforts with integrity,” said Judge Kirkpatrick. “He is the clear front runner in the race, and I fully expect to see him as our next district attorney.”

The Honorable Richard C. Kirkpatrick (ret.) served SLO County for several decades as a court clerk, bailiff, sheriff’s deputy, criminal defense attorney, district attorney, plaintiff’s civil attorney, Municipal Court Judge, and Superior Court Judge, retiring in 1993. Kirkpatrick founded the law firm Kirkpatrick and Boswell in 1982. Prior to his service on the Superior Court, the Honorable Edward H. Chidlaw (ret.) was appointed to the San Luis Obispo Municipal Court by Governor George Deukmejian in June 1986, and in 1989 was unanimously elected Presiding Judge. Chidlaw retired from the Superior Court in 1999 after serving on the bench for more than 13 years.

“To be supported by both Judge Kirkpatrick and Judge Chidlaw is an honor,” remarked Dow. “I appreciate their votes of confidence, and look forward to getting to work solving the public safety issues that face our agencies and community.”

Dow continues to build broad support from elected leaders throughout San Luis Obispo County. Judges Kirkpatrick and Chidlaw add their voices of support to the dozens of public officials who have endorsed Dow for DA, including San Luis Obispo County Supervisors Frank Mecham, Debbie Arnold, Shirley Bianchi (ret.), and Harry Ovitt (ret.), and the entire Atascadero City Council, among others.

Dow has always demonstrated a desire to serve both his local community and his country. Currently an Army Major, command judge advocate, Dow was deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn and to Kosovo under Operation Enduring Freedom. Dow broadened his experience as a prosecutor by prosecuting court-martials while in Iraq. Now as a San Luis Obispo County deputy DA, Dow specializes in the prosecution of homicide, sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse crimes.

For the past eight years as deputy DA, Dow has consistently protected SLO residents against the worst criminal offenders while advocating for victims of crime and their families. With a fast growing list of community leaders, elected officials and law enforcement officers endorsing his campaign, Dow looks to continue providing that same security for our residents, families and business owners as the next San Luis Obispo DA.

Dan and his wife Wendy have been married for 21 years.  They have two children, Chloe, age 9 and Jedidiah, age 7.
