Plans for major improvements to the Warden Bridge in downtown San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza are underway. Construction is set to begin late February on the hazardous structure. Plans include smoothing out some of the major bumps in the path and making the handrail ADA compliant. Portions of the bridge will be replaced with stabilizing materials to eliminate any future sinking before the current bricks will be re-laid. To further smooth out the path, the tree creating much of the damage at the north end of the bridge will be removed. Bids for the project will open on Jan. 15 with the goal of having construction completed by early April. Bridge upgrades are a part of the SLO Chamber’s advocacy efforts to make necessary safety improvements to Mission Plaza.
