central coast railroad museumThe San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum will host the annual Central Coast Railroad Festival on October 5, 2019 to celebrate the rich history of trains and tracks on the Cen- tral Coast. Several locations throughout the region will be open with displays all week- end. The event at the Museum begins at 10:00 am Saturday, October 5th, and concludes at 4:00pm.

The event features food by Railroad BBQ, a railroad swap meet, children’s activities, a model railroad for kids to operate, Operation Lifesaver, and the Museum’s world-class model railroad. In addition, the Oceano Depot will run their large HO model railway. The City-County Library will host running model train layouts by the Orange County N- Gineers in the Community Room, Friday – Sunday.

Featured events will be the annual Model Railroad Tour and a walking tour of the high- lights of the Historic Railroad District. For the story of how trains and San Luis Obispo interacted with the likes of Theodore Roosevelt to poet Jack Kerouac, contact James Papp who will lead a walking tour of the historic Railroad District. The Museum’s new rolling stock includes a Diesel locomotive that once pulled trains at Camp Roberts, a Beet Gondola that used to pass through San Luis Obispo going to or from the Santa Maria Valley and much more. Sunday concludes the event with self guid- ed tours and open home layouts for viewing throughout the region.
