The Community Foundation On September 26, The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County’s (CFSLOCO) Women’s Legacy Fund (WLF) will host their 17th  annual luncheon to present $60,000 in grants to local organizations. This year’s emcees will be the mother-daughter duo of Linda Reitner and Missy Reitner- Cameron who are both WLF Legacy Leaders and Advisory Committee members. WLF addresses many issues that women and girls face in San Luis Obispo County and is their fourth year of funding to local nonprofits that provide essential programs in our communities to empower girls across our communities.

The keynote speaker at this year’s luncheon will be Tuti Scott, founder of Changemaker Strategies. Tuti serves as a “Chief Inspiration Officer” and guide to countless leaders and teams that are advancing social change, with more than 25 years of experience educating and energizing bold change makers. An energizing author and speaker, “Coach Tuti” invigorates audiences to insist on impact. She helps individuals and foundations resource critical work using a gender and racial justice lens and coaches people to be more courageous and values- based in our leadership, teambuilding, and relationship to money and resources. Tuti is a proud intersectional feminist and investor in women.

Over the years, the WLF has granted more than $400,000 to local non-profits that support women and girls. This year, the grants have been awarded to the following organizations:

  • $20,000 to Peoples’ Self-Help Housing for C.E.L.E.B.R.E. (College Enrollment for Latinas Entering Bright Rewarding Educations) Program coordinates students, family, and program staff in support of participants’ academic progress and matches students with mentors who work one-on-one, providing support needed by first-generation Latina college
  • $10,000 each to Boys & Girls Club of Mid Central Coast and Boys & Girls Club of South San Luis Obispo County for their SMART Girls program is a small-group self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls ages 8 to
  • $10,000 to Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Inc. for their “Dads with Daughters” program with Parent Cafés that will enhance their daughters’ self-esteem, confidence, and future relationships with men. Father involvement promotes optimal child
  • $7,500 to French Hospital Medical Center Foundation for their Dove Girl’s Self-Esteem Program which empowers girls ages 8-12 with the skills, knowledge, and support to overcome gender inequities, stereotypes and build resilience. Two self-esteem workshops are held annually at participating SLO County schools, with 10-15 girls participating in each session – an annual total of 20 workshops at ten locations, reaching an estimated 240
  • $2,500 to Transitions-Mental Health Association for their Youth Treatment Program (YTP), a six-bed residential treatment program serving young people who require 24-hour therapeutic, mental health care. Funding will provide a group of young women who have multiple issues with a curriculum and series of experiences that will provide room for positive growth and greater self-esteem.

More than 700 local women and men are expected to attend the Women’s Legacy Fund luncheon. The event will take place at the Alex Madonna Expo Center on September 26 from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm. Reservations can be made online until September 11th at https://wlfslo2019.bpt.me
