Every year, on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food as part of Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest one-day food drive. For the 24th consecutive year, local letter carriers collected items and distributed the donations to the San Luis Obispo County Food Bank Coalition and their agency partners.

stampouthunger(2)In San Luis Obispo County, one in six of our neighbors face hunger, which includes over 46,000 children, seniors, families and individuals who are unsure of where their next meal will come from. The Food Bank works with a network of community partners to alleviate hunger and build a healthier community in San Luis Obispo County.

Thanks to the goodness and compassion of local postal customers, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive collected nearly 20,000 pounds of food. “Many people in this country struggle with hunger every day,” said NALC President Fredric Roland. “We are honored to be able to help people in need by leading an effort that brings out the best in so many Americans. Six days a week, letter carriers see first-hand the needs in the communities where we work, and we’re committed to helping meet those needs.”

The Food Bank is grateful for the generosity of their supporters and for their continued partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers, SLO County Post Offices and local Letter Carriers.
