SLO dt assocStart off the holiday season with one of the community’s most beloved holiday spectacles. The Downtown Association invites you to their 39th annual Holiday Parade in Downtown San Luis Obispo. This year’s parade theme is ‘Hula Holiday’ and the Downtown Association and hundreds of marching participants will be getting into the island spirit on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. as they make their way around Downtown SLO.

Grand Marshal Robert Horch, former City Parking Manager, will kick off the procession at Palm and Chorro Streets. “It’s been a labor of love for me to be able to provide a service to this community, and to be recognized for it in this way, I am truly honored.” Horch said.

Look forward to bright floats, festive marching bands, classic carolers, skateboarding elves, and Santa himself hula-ing down the streets of Downtown San Luis Obispo. The parade route is nine blocks long starting on Chorro at Palm and ending on Higuera at Nipomo. A detailed map is available at www.downtownslo.com and will also be available in The Tribune’s Holiday Guide which will be delivered to Tribune subscribers the day after Thanksgiving.

Parade entries will be competing for awards including Best in Theme, Most Creative and Most Entertaining. Ten parade announcers will be stationed along the nine block parade route ensuring every spectator has a good seat.

This year’s parade is presented by The San Luis Obispo Collection. Sponsors include New Times, Coastal Pediatric Dentistry, Fatte’s Pizza, Cal Poly Fraternities and Sororities, Teaberry Frozen Yogurt, KSBY Channel 6, the Wineman GrillHaus, Wells Fargo, TRUST Automation, and SLO City News.
