Concert goers can experience a night of extraordinary music and world-class talent when the San Luis Obispo Symphony teams up with the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles for a thrilling concert event on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo.
The highly anticipated Classics II: Paderewski Gala concert will feature the internationally acclaimed Polish-Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska performing Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor,” a masterpiece of the classical piano repertoire.
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with the Paderewski Festival to bring the world-renowned Janina Fialkowska to the Central Coast,” said Rachel Sabalboro, Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony. “Her extraordinary talent and passion for Paderewski’s music will make this performance a truly unforgettable experience, and we’re excited to share this remarkable collaboration with our community.”
There will be a pre-concert discussion at 6:30 p.m. with Maestro Andrew Sewell, Ms. Fialkowska, and Marek Zebrowski, curator of the Polish Music Center at USC and the artistic director of the Paderewski Festival. It is included with the price of event tickets. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. There is also an open rehearsal, called “No Ties Allowed,” offered for free to the community at 11 a.m. the same day.
The evening will include a spectacular lineup of pieces, beginning with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute K. 620: Overture,” one of his most beloved operatic works, full of whimsy and drama. Adding to the excitement, the concert will feature the world premiere of Stefan Podell’s “Cayucos by the Sea,” a stunning new composition celebrating the natural beauty and spirit of Cayucos.
The performance will culminate with Maurice Ravel’s orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a vivid and dynamic work that has enchanted audiences for decades with its rich orchestral colors and powerful musical storytelling.
