Big Brothers Big Sisters SLO CountyBig Brothers Big Sisters has received a grant from the Women’s Legacy Fund held at the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo.  This grant will support curriculum designed to build self-esteem, develop youth’s sense of empowerment and build skills to resist bullying. Youth participants will have greater opportunities for growth thus achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, improved relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors and greater educational success.

“Last year, 93% of participating elementary students reported a greater sense of social acceptance and 85% said they felt more confident in school.  We are extremely grateful to The Woman’s Legacy Fund for making it possible for us to serve more vulnerable youth this year,” Big Brothers Big Sisters School Based Specialist Sheena Jones said.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is one among 5 recipients, whose grants total $25,000.  The funding from Women’s Legacy Fund and Legacy Leaders helps to create an exceptional bond between at-risk children and the older students who volunteer to support them.
