Cal Poly Arts is bringing Grammy-award winner Ladysmith Black Mambazo and contemporary dance troupe Jacob Jonas The Company to the Performing Arts Center early March.
Returning on Tuesday, March 12, Ladysmith Black Mambazo performs another joyous concert at the Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. No group is more closely identified with African song – some might say with world music itself – than this vibrant South African nine-member vocal ensemble. Since 1987, they were introduced to mainstream America with the release of Paul Simon’s groundbreaking Graceland album. These African troubadours have traveled the world with the uplifting, polyrhythmic harmonies of their homeland. The group has won five Grammy Awards, including Best World Music Album for their 2017 Shaka Zulu Revisited release.
A free pre-concert lecture will be led by Cal Poly language professor Brian G. Kennelly, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Pavilion.
Student and adult tickets range from $19.20 – $54
