Hospice SLO today announced an upcoming event which honors the life of Dan McCornack and supports the non-profit’s counseling and emotional support services.

The 18-hole golf tournament will feature a shot-gun start at 8:00 a.m. Afterwards, tournament golfers and non-golfers are encouraged to join the barbeque at Heilmann Park, located next to the course. Registration for the tournament has ended; however, anyone wishing to participate in the lunch and auction are encouraged to attend. Cost for lunch is $20 per person. Auction items have been generously donated by the community and all proceeds from the event will support Hospice SLO’s free grief counseling services at their north county counseling center located at 811 12th St., Suite 301 in Paso Robles.

Dan McCornack was a central coast native and avid golfer who loved outings with his family and friends and making the perfect barbequed meal. In 2004 and 2005 he held the title of club champion at the Chalk Mountain Golf Course, in Atascadero. When he passed in 2008 at the age of 45, his family sought to honor his life with an annual event that incorporated his favorite pastimes- loving family, good friends, delicious barbeque and a round of golf at his favorite course. After receiving counseling services from Hospice SLO after his untimely death, his surviving family knew they found a truly worthy and deserving cause to donate the funds to. $25,000 has been raised for Hospice SLO to date through the event. Now in its fifth year, the Dan McCornack Memorial Golf tournament and BBQ is a great way to “keep Dan’s humor, memory and spirit alive through one of the things he loved most, the game of golf,” said Ralph McCornack, Dan’s father.

“The McCornack family has created a memorial event in Dan’s honor that continues to help hundreds of individuals each year who are in need of grief counseling and support. This event is filled with joy, laughter, sweetness and fun and it is a loving tribute to Dan” said Kris Kington-Barker, executive director of Hospice SLO.
