The second annual Imagination Park Fall Classic is flipping golf tournaments on their heads by incorporating a “walk-a-thon” aspect, allowing anyone to donate online in support of their favorite teams.

Hosted by Blue Rooster Telecom on September 13 at Monarch Dunes, the Imagination Park Fall Classic will double as a competitive tournament and Golf-a-thon. It offers hole-in-one prizes, food and beverages at every hole, and a $10,000 putting contest, while also allowing online supporters to root for their team and donate.

“This type of event offers a whole new way to golf and raise funds for a great cause,” Blue Rooster Telecom President Jeff Buckingham said. “The best part is that everyone in our community can get involved, whether they’re golfers or not. Our theme is ‘Fun and Inclusivity;’ everyone can participate, and we hope they do. This effort is about building and maintaining the park.”

The tournament benefits the Jack Ready Imagination Park, which is being built in Nipomo as a service of Jack’s Helping Hand. The 33-acre public park is the only one of its kind on the Central Coast, offering a universally accessible place for children of all ages, regardless of physical limitations, can play side by side. This will be a destination park used by families all over California.

Half of last year’s golf teams joined the event online, which is what makes this tournament unique and inclusive. Unlike most golf tournaments, which are open to golfers only, the Imagination Park Fall Classic is open to everyone.

Each golf team can create a profile at www.Crowdrise.com/ipfc. Once the team is created online, the public can view their profile, join and support a team, or simply donate under to the event under their favorite team name. The tournament hopes to eventually attract 36 team captains and their players to golf, then 1,000 more local online supporters to join one of the 36 teams to help them raise funds.

“This whole concept is very new to golf,” said Russ Lovell, one of the tournaments founders. “In fact, nobody can really point to another tournament like it anywhere. We proved the concept can work last year in the first event called Golf to Benefit Others where we raised over $34,000 in net proceeds for Jack’s Helping Hand. This year, our goal is to raise over $40,000.”
