In celebration of National Arts Month, the second annual Passport to the Arts event brings kids and families to the Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo for a day of hands-on visual, literary and performing arts activities.

On Saturday, October 5, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., youth attendees will receive their own day passport, tote bag, and can sign up to win free tickets to upcoming performances and classes throughout San Luis Obispo County. Children can engage in a variety of hands-on arts activities stationed throughout the plaza and enjoy ongoing live performances by youth-age performers happening every half hour in the amphitheater. The day will culminate at 1 p.m. with a free “No Ties Allowed” open rehearsal by the San Luis Obispo Symphony at the Performing Arts Center.

Passport to the Arts is intended as a celebration of the arts in our county and will allow children to see performances and encourage them to try different types of art. Families can pick up their free bag full of information about upcoming arts events, lessons, and performance information for the year. Join us this arts season to experience different art forms.

This event also kicks off the Passport to the Arts Performance Season; a collaboration of local performing arts groups offering free tickets to students who participate in arts education programs. The groups are Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Arts, Festival Mozaic, Opera SLO, and SLO Symphony. A limited number of performance passports will be raffled during the October 5th event.

Passport to the Arts is sponsored by the City of San Luis Obispo, the Central Coast Center for Arts Education at Cal Poly, and ARTS Obispo.
