SLO Marathon 250Morris & Garritano, San Luis Obispo’s premiere, full-service insurance agency since 1885 has signed on to sponsor the Team Initiative for the San Luis Obispo Marathon, Half Marathon + 5K presented by LeftLaneSports.com.

A trusted and well-respected community business, Morris & Garritano fielded more than 100 employees, friends and family members on their team at the SLO Marathon over the past two years. In addition to their wellness success as an agency, their COO, Kerry Morris has qualified for the Boston Marathon in both 2012 and 2013.

“It’s great to partner with Morris & Garritano on our teams initiative,” said Heather Hellman, SLO Marathon event director. “If you look at a company that personifies the history and what’s unique about San Luis Obispo, it’s Morris & Garritano. They have been serving businesses and individuals in the community for nearly 130 years. They’re leaders and that’s admirable. They support a healthy lifestyle through their own wellness program and can help local companies do the same. They are the perfect partners to help us build corporate and club teams for the marathon.”

The Team Initiative is a rebate program that incentivizes companies and individuals to form a team to participate in the marathon, half marathon or 5K race. With a team of 15 or more people, marathon and half marathon participants get $15 off their registration and a free tech training shirt. 5K participants can be on the team and they receive the free shirt. Teams can use their rebate money to throw a party, give back to their teammates or donate it to charity. Many teams participate to build employee camaraderie, start a wellness program or just for the fun of doing something together.

“We strive to provide a work environment that supports a healthy, work life balance,” says Kerry Morris, chief operating officer at Morris & Garritano. “The SLO marathon has been a great event to incorporate into our wellness program. It is a fun, team-building activity that brings our staff together as well as promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.”
