AIDS Support NetworkJoin the community on Nov. 2 for the 22nd annual Walk for Life, benefitting the AIDS Support Network (ASN) and SLO Hep C Project.

Come for the cause, but enjoy what the day has to offer, including a winding walk through San Luis Obispo with fun surprises along the way, delicious BBQ, and even a furry companion for the walk, courtesy of Wood’s Humane Society’s Rent-a-Dog program. Walkers can sign up online in advance and track their fund-raising efforts, or simply show up and register at 9 a.m. and walk solo or with friends and family. In addition to the walk, local businesses, churches, non-profits, and community members will convene at Santa Rosa Park in San Luis Obispo to support their neighbors, friends, and family living with HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C.

The ASN is the sole community based organization providing supportive services for people living with HIV and AIDS in San Luis Obispo County. Its partner program, the SLO Hep C Project, provides similar services for people living with hepatitis C. Both have a dedicated staff and corps of volunteers who provide comprehensive supportive services, offering financial, emotional, and practical assistance.

The Walk for Life is the year’s largest fund-raising effort for these programs and every dollar stays in the county to help local residents with these devastating diseases.

The dollars raised will directly impact the lives of our clients. They translate to health education; access to medications; physicians and public or private benefits programs; assistance for utilities and rent; payments for mental health counseling, lab work, dental work and so much more. By walking with, you not only help us raise funds for vital services, but you help raise awareness for HIV/AIDS and hep C.
