The DeGroot Youth Activities Endowment Fund ((DYAEF), a fund created by the owners of Kimberly’s Global Real Estate Corporation, Dan and Kim Conti DeGroot, recently donated $9,000 to the San Luis Coastal Education Foundation School Closure Impact Fund to provide bikes for kids.

The School Closure Impact Fund, which aims to help our district’s most vulnerable families disproportionately impacted by the economic disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, will help students who are lacking transportation options and would benefit from having a bike to help them get to school.

“The DeGroot Youth Activities Endowment Fund has been an incredible partner helping to meet the needs of kids impacted by the pandemic and school closures,” said San Luis Coastal Education Foundation Executive Director Christine Robertson.  “Just this year, their support launched our ‘Challenge Box’ series to provide hands-on learning projects to nearly 4,000 elementary students every month, helped increase internet access for vulnerable students during distance learning, and is now providing bikes to kids across our district who need alternative transportation to return to school. The DeGroot’s are making a real and lasting difference for the kids in our community.”

According to Robertson, as kids begin returning to school, COVID-19 protocols are creating some transportation challenges due to spacing requirements on school and city busses.  She estimates there are 20 to 30 students in need of alternative transportation and the sponsorship from the DYAEF will provided them with a free bike, helmet, chain, lock and a bike light.

“Children in our community face many challenges, and they need the ability to continue to learn,” said Kim Conti DeGroot, owner of Kimberly’s Global Real Estate Corporation. “Everyone is in this together. We are proud we can help provide the resources that students need to continue their education. We are also thankful for all the gracious people in our community that donate to fund because without their support, we couldn’t do this alone.”
