Two Broads Ciderworks is close to finishing the build out of their tasting room to share their cider and space for community gatherings in San Luis Obispo. With construction delays and a pandemic limiting tasting room operations, owners Maggie Przybylski and Morgan Murphy couldn’t wait to partner with other local businesses to share what cider and food can do together.

Three Broads Brunch is a partnership with Alyx Gille of Good Tides Bistro, and includes cider paired with Alyx’s sumptuous pastries. “One savory pastry and one sweet pastry, to be split in half or argued over,” Maggie giggled. “If there isn’t already a cult dedicated to her flakey cream-filled ‘cro-muffins’, there should be,” Morgan quipped.

The Three C’s Picnic is a collaboration with Park 1039, a new market and restaurant in downtown San Luis Obispo. The threes C’s are Cheese, Charcuterie, and Cider. The broads pick a cider and the team at Park 1039 picks delicious meats and cheeses to pair.

Each month, the cider selection changes and the pairings change to match, so it is always a new adventure for curious foodies. Other pairings in development are: chocolates and caramels with a local chocolatier. The intention is these programs will become more regular offerings at the tasting room when it opens.

“It allows our audience to enjoy cider on a whole other level, but also to partner with businesses and introduce our customers to them, helping to promote their business,” Maggie says.

In another recent development, proceeds from these and future pairing programs benefit a particular local charity. Last year, in honor of Juneteenth, they made donations to RACE Matters SLO. Also, early in the pandemic, they made a donation to the SLO Food Bank. This last month the pairing programs benefited RISE SLO and GALA Central Coast. This coming month is Bike Month, and they plan to contribute pairing profits to Bike SLO County.

“We think these pairing experiences are irresistible and that the hardest decision you’ll have to make is not which experience to purchase, but where you will enjoy your experience,” Maggie says. The pairings are very portable, and can be taken out on a hike, to a seaside bluff, or to your own backyard. (The Two Broads encourage a pack-in, pack-out, leave-no-trace approach to enjoying cider outside, and to be cautious with glass.)

Two Broads Ciderworks is located at 3427 Roberto Court in San Luis Obispo, where Maggie and Morgan crush, press, ferment, and package all the cider, as they have since 2017. They pride themselves on using local and heirloom apples. They prefer to make dry, bright, wine-like ciders.

They self-distribute and are available locally at Ember, Fossil Wine Bar, and Oak and Otter, to name a few, and have a few accounts in the Bay Area as well. For a full list of places with Two Broads Cider, visit their website at twobroadscider.com.
