On the evening of Friday, April 4 the Community Counseling Center of San Luis Obispo County will host the inaugural “Cerebral Cinema” gala film premier of “Frankie & Alice” starring Halle Berry at the Historic Fremont Theatre.
This award worthy film is inspired by the remarkable true story of an African American go-go dancer “Frankie” with multiple personalities (dissociative identity disorder or “DID”) who struggles to remain her true self while fighting against two unique alter egos: a seven-year-old child named Genius and a Southern white racist woman named Alice.
A VIP event for cinema guests will occur from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the theatre lobby with tapas served by local Chef Robert Paul Johnson and wine poured from Adelaida Cellars and Saucelito Canyon. Doors for general admission will open at 7:00 p.m. and the film will start at 7:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $50 and General Admission is $20.
This entertainment and educational awareness building affair is co-sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of SLO County. Berry will be gracing the cover of NAMI’s Advocate Magazine in the early spring (due out end of February).
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit CCC, the oldest mental health non-profit in the County. Since 1968 CCC has been the lead agency providing premium, sliding scale mental health counseling to the low to moderate income and uninsured residents. CCC is equally distinct for being the single largest training site for pre-licensed mental health counselors in SLO County.
CCC invites community members to come watch an entertaining film carrying significant mental health and race relations implications while supporting a credible and tremendous agency.
To purchase tickets please call the CCC main office at (805) 543-7969 or go to the website www.cccslo.com and click on “upcoming events” to reserve tickets now.
