slo little theatreThe San Luis Obispo Little Theatre’s Academy of Creative Theatre (ACT) is now accepting registrations for its Fall 2016 Theatre Classes. A total of five different after school theatre classes designed for students ages 5-18 will be offered once per week for eight weeks, September 12-November 9, 2016. All ACT classes take place in a lively, nurturing, fun environment and are taught by professional teaching artists who are passionate and skilled at working with young performers. ACT theatre classes stretch the imagination, encourage teamwork and collaboration, and help children to develop listening and speaking skills, all while promoting creative self- expression and self-esteem. Tuition ranges from $180-$195 and thanks to generous grants provided through the Janssen Youth & Youth Sports Fund, held at The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County, and by the Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust, scholarships are always available so that every child with a desire to learn can participate. Additional funding for ACT programs is provided by Rabobank and by individual donations made by Patricia McNamara, in memory of Laura McNamara and by Ann Robinson. Class details are listed below. #1 DRAMA KIDS Designed for ages 5-6
September 13 -November 8, 2016 Tuesdays, 3:45-4:45pm
Instructor: Felicia Hall

Welcome to the excitement and fun of theatre! In this class, students play with their favorite stories and picture books through theatre, song, and dance. Students will grow artistically and socially as they let their imaginations go wild and explore the world of theatre through creative and collaborative play. This class is designed for beginning readers and theatre newbies and will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends. Cost of 9 week class: $180

#2 STORYBOOK ADVENTURES Designed for ages 6-7
September 12 -November 7, 2016 Mondays, 4:00-5:00pm
Instructor: Danielle McNamara

With picture books serving as a springboard, children have the opportunity to develop fundamental acting skills while working as a team to bring stories from the page to the stage! Students will be led through role playing, movement, improvisation, character creation, and theatre games to encourage and unleash their imagination, as well as build basic theatre skills. With new content each session, this is a great class for returning students. The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.  Cost of 9 week class: $180

#3 ▪ TAKE THE STAGE ▪ Designed for ages 8-11
September 14 -November 9, 2016 ▪ Wednesdays
Session A: 3:45-4:45pm, Instructor: Danielle McNamara
Session B: 5:15-6:15, Instructor: Casey Canino

This class will focus on the performance of a fun, ensemble-based scene from an existing play. Students will create characters, explore plot, and develop a presence onstage, all within the world of the play. Take the Stage provides students with the creative tools to build the essentials of acting, as well as emphasizing teamwork and collaboration. The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends. Cost of 9 week class: $180

#4 IMPROV II Designed for ages 11+
September 12 –November 7 , 2016 Mondays, 5:00-6:00pm
Instructor: Lester Wilson

When it comes to theatre, improvisation is the art of acting without a prepared script. This class will dive deep into improvised character development, relationships between characters, and long-form improv, all designed to help the young actor develop skills that will serve him/her on any stage. This class is designed for students who have taken Improv I or who have comparable experience. If you have any questions, please contact Education Director, Kerry DiMaggio. #5 AUDITION TECHNIQUES Designed for ages 12+
September 13-November 8, 2016 Tuesdays, 4:45-6:00pm

Nervous about auditioning?  Walk into your next audition with confidence! This class will include instruction and practice in audition etiquette, material selection, text analysis, and day-of-the-audition tips and techniques.  Students will leave the class with ready-to-go audition material, as well as the skills to audition for ACT’s winter production, The Importance of Being Earnest. A fantastic class for building your audition skills and repertoire. Cost of 9 week class: $195
