e-InsiderThe oldest mercantile building in San Luis Obispo will soon be the home of a new tasting room. Drake Wines is set to open up shop in the Ah Louis building this summer. Mark and Andi Cummins opened the Arroyo Grande-based winery in 2005 and specialize in crafting limited bottles of 100 percent varietal, block designate wines, mainly pinot noir and chardonnay. This will be the second tasting room for Drake Wines; the first opened two years ago in Santa Barbara. Insiders report that the interior of the 130-year-old building will be designed as a cross between a mercantile store and a parlor. Meanwhile Monterey Street Wines, most recently known as Vintage 1255 at 1255 Monterey St., will be closing from April through mid-May in order to refashion the interior of the wine and cheese shop.
