ampsurfAmpSurf, a non-profit organization improving the quality of life for disabled persons and veterans through adaptive surf programs, kicks-off its West Coast 2018 Learn-to-Surf series of clinics on June 9 in Pismo Beach. The 2018 Learn-to-Surf Series marks the 16th year that AmpSurf has been doing Learn-to-Surf Clinics here on the Central Coast. Since 2003, AmpSurf has been sharing the healing power of the ocean with people living with disabilities including kids, adults and those who have sacrificed serving our country, teaching them through adaptive surfing to focus on abilities, not disabilities.

We have more than 20 participants coming out on June 9 in Pismo, including 13 participants from SLO County Veterans Outreach and two special guests: Peter (PJ) K. and Rumi W.. PJ, from Yosemite, lost his leg last fall after sustaining injuries at a JV football practice. This will be PJ’s first attempt at surfing and we look forward to sharing the healing power of the waves with him. Rumi is a beautiful 4-year-old girl who was born with symbrachydactyly, a condition where she has a left hand, but not a right. Rumi was recently featured on the premier of the TLC show “This Is Life Live.”
