October’s Art After Dark promises to be one of the largest to date with locations displaying a wide variety of visual art, music and dance. In addition to the numerous downtown San Luis Obispo locations, there are eleven locations on north Monterey Street, several south of downtown and even one on Los Osos Valley Road.
One of the highlights of the month is the Open Studios Art Tour 12 x 12 x 12 Preview Show at Art Central Gallery, 1329 Monterey Street. Artists showcase one work each, no larger than 12” x 12” x 12”, in a display that gives visitors samples of what they can see during this year’s Tour.
The 12 x 12 x 12 Preview Show begins with a reception on Friday, October 7 during Art After Dark, 6-9pm. There are nearly 200 artists on this year’s countywide Open Studios Art Tour, and many of them will attend the opening reception. The exhibit will include a wide range of mediums and styles, including “Holey Rocks” by Oscar Pearson, “Gingko Leaf Bowl” by Sandy Ferris, and “Queenie” by Catherine Lemoine. Refreshments will be served during the reception.
Two new venues are joining Art After Dark in October, SLO Provisions, featuring artist Sharon Harris and the UCC Congregational Church with an art, photography, sculpture and a vintage car exhibit. Also, SLO Yoga returns with Civic Ballet SLO performing a classical and contemporary repertoire.
Art After Dark is presented by ARTS Obispo, the San Luis Obispo County Arts Council. Founded in 1981, ARTS Obispo, a nonprofit State-Local Partner of the California Arts Council, advances visual, literary and performing arts and celebrates culture and heritage countywide for artists and arts organizations.
