Art After Dark: A Celebration of Community and Creativity

On the first Friday of each month, Art After Dark transforms downtown San Luis Obispo into a lively hub of artistic expression. This free, self-guided art walk features local artists, live music and community gatherings, fostering a sense of unity and shared experience. Stroll through businesses hosting local artists and offering snacks and beverages, and enjoy a night on the town surrounded by local art.

Theater and Performance Venues

San Luis Obispo boasts a variety of venues offering diverse live performances. Here are just a few of the great offerings:

  • SLO Repertory Theatre (SLO REP): As one of the oldest continuously running nonprofit theaters in the nation, SLO REP presents a year-round season of professional live theater.
  • Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo (PAC): Located on the Cal Poly campus, the PAC hosts a variety of performances, from classical music to contemporary acts. Highlights for March 2025 include “Ireland With Michael LIVE” on March 16 and the Grand Kyiv Ballet’s “Swan Lake” on March 18.
  • The Palm Theatre: As the country’s first solar-powered movie theater, The Palm Theatre embodies innovation and sustainability while providing an eclectic mix of independent, foreign, and classic films.
