assistance league slo countyOperation School Bell is the primary philanthropic program of Assistance League. Clothing the first of 1,600 students throughout San Luis Obispo County’s 10 school districts began in August.

Operation School Bell provides new, school-appropriate clothing and a dental kit to students in need in grades Kindergarten through 12.

This year the Assistance League has budgeted to clothe 1,600 children, increasing spending to $120 per student in K-5 grade and $150 per student in 6 – 12 grade through a retail shopping experience at Old Navy in San Luis Obispo and Kohl’s in Paso Robles.

At the beginning of each school year, Assistance League’s member volunteers meet with school personnel to issue clothing referrals. The goal is to provide clothing to disadvantaged students as they begin the school year. However, Operation School Bell continues throughout the school year to serve as many students in need as possible within the fiscal budget.
