With the June primary in the rearview, the focus has now turned to the November general election. Dan Rivoire, the executive director of the SLO County Bicycle Coalition, has filed his intention to throw his hat into the ring of candidates vying for a seat on the San Luis Obispo City Council this fall. Since graduating from Cal Poly in 2007, Rivoire has been active in the community in numerous organizations including the SLO Chamber, where he previously served as chair of the Sustainability & Resources Committee. The election to fill three seats has attracted the attention of several candidates. Two incumbents – Mayor Jan Marx and Vice Mayor Carlyn Christianson – are seeking reelection. In addition, financial planner Gordon Mullin and Daniel Cano, executive director of the nonprofit organization The Link, have also filed their intention to run for council. Former city planning commissioner Eric Meyer, who had planned to run, dropped out of the race in May. The deadline to file for city council is August 8.
