An Evening with David Sedaris and a new line-up of National Geographic Live speakers; brilliant Broadway musicals “Waitress, American in Paris,” and “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical”; the magical spectacle “The Illusionists – Live From Broadway”; comedy from George Lopez, The Improvised Shakespeare Company and Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood’s “Scared Scriptless” improv tour; concerts by Mandy Patinkin, Leo Kottke, Thelma Houston’s Motown Experience; and George Winston; and the return of Pink Martini and “Late Night with Stephen Colbert” bandleader Jon Batiste, this time with Batiste’s Stay Human band.
Classical music is well represented with master pianist Emanuel Ax performing an all-Beethoven concert and the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra. World music and dance span the globe: Ireland’s Cherish the Ladies; Diego Figueirido Trio’s “Brazilian Nights,” the all-female Mariachi band Flor de Toloache; LA’s Las Cafeteras; and Hawaii’s Waipuna. Dance companies include Dorrance Dance, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Lula Washington Dance Theatre, while modern circus arts and acrobatics are explored by Cirque Éloize in their production, Hotel.
“Announcing our new season is a special moment each year. The anticipation in the community is always great,” says Cal Poly Arts Director Steve Lerian. “We’ve been presenting world-class performances in San Luis Obispo for the past 35 years, and I am confident in saying that this is one of, if not the, best selection of artists and companies we have ever put together. I’m sure the community is going to love it.”
