Cal Poly Career Services launched a Professional Clothing Closet Crowdfunding Drive to support Cal Poly students with limited financial means.
Members of the San Luis Obispo community can make a big impact on Cal Poly students who cannot afford professional clothing required for interviews and career fairs by donating to this one-time drive, which ends on April 30. The goal of the drive is to purchase 50 complete outfits for students who don’t have the means to purchase their own.
“Over the last year student usage of the closet has doubled and we are seeing a larger proportion not getting their needs met. All monetary donations will further our mission to make the closet more inclusive and improve students access to this valuable resource,” the Professional Clothing Closet Coordinator Erika Wagner, said.
Currently, about half of all Cal Poly students receive some form of need-based financial aid, while around 4,000 students receive Pell Grants each year.
The Career Services’ Professional Clothing Closet aims to ensure that all students have the same chance at success by providing them with free, high-quality work clothes necessary to create a memorable first impression at career fairs and interviews. The closet supports more than 400 students per year through drop-in appointments, targeted events, and partnering with on-campus departments, clubs, and organizations.
