Music aficionados in the Bay Area will soon enjoy the harmonious sounds of a cappella performed by a group of young women from San Luis Obispo County.

Members of the Central Coast Children’s Choir’s Advance Vocal Ensemble (AVE) will compete at the 34th Annual Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival on March 31 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

Last year, AVE placed third in Los Angeles and was voted audience favorite.

Directed by esteemed chorale professional Melody Svennungsen, the Advanced Vocal Ensemble is an auditioned chamber group of young women (grades 9-12) who perform throughout San Luis Obispo County and beyond, singing challenging—often a cappella—music.

The Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival is the premier American showcase for vocal harmony music. The annual national competition draws from hundreds of vocal groups from around the country with regional competitions in eight cities. The winning group from each festival is flown to perform in front of celebrity judges and a sold-out house of enthusiastic a cappella fans at the National Finals.

Tickets for the San Francisco performance can be purchased online at www.cityboxoffice.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=1992
