The San Luis Obispo Little Theatre (SLOLT) has received a generous $2,000 grant from the Central Coast Funds for Children (CCFC) in support of their Academy of Creative Theatre (ACT) student production of The Importance of Being Earnest which runs at the theatre through January 29, 2017. Specifically, the grant underwrites discounted children’s tickets to ALL performances as well as 100 free tickets for children and families being distributed through partnerships with the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum, the SLO County YMCA and People’s S elf-Help Housing.
“Participating in live theatre – whether onstage or in the audience – inspires creativity and encourages a greater appreciation of the arts and a stronger connection to one’s community” says Education Director Kerry DiMaggio. “This generous grant from the Central Coast Funds for Children will enable us to share our student production of The Importance of Being Earnest, not only with the students performing in the production, but with dozens of children and families throughout the county who might not otherwise be able to attend.”
Directed by Shelagh Garren, The Importance of Being Earnest features student actors from the Little Theatre’s ACT educational program, and is an ideal show for families who wish to introduce young children to live theatre, and to a classic comedy by Irish playwright Oscar Wilde.

ABOUT CENTRAL COAST FUNDS FOR CHILDREN
Central Coast Funds for Children was established to benefit children in need of special services in San Luis Obispo County. CCFC has no paid staff, all activities are run by volunteers. Less than 6% of the income raised goes to expenses. Funds are raised through private and business donations, dues and special fundraising events. All monies are generated by volunteer membership of Central Coast Funds For Children. Since 1994, CCSF has granted over one million dollars to local non-profit organizations to benefit children’s programs in San Luis Obispo County.
ABOUT THE ACADEMY OF CREATIVE THEATRE
The San Luis Obispo Little Theatre’s Academy of Creative Theatre provides year-round theatrical training for youth ages 5-18 (kindergarten through 12th grade.) ACT’s after-school programs, summer camps and theatrical production classes inspire young performers and technicians to develop skills which will benefit them throughout their lives, both on and off the stage. Students involved in ACT learn from professional artists in programs designed to help students explore creative self-expression and individuality. Whether students choose to pursue theatre as a career, as volunteers or as audience members, their experience at the San Luis Obispo Little Theatre will help them to develop a greater appreciation of the theatre arts and a stronger connection to their community.
