As we approach 2015, and put the finishing touches on another exhilarating year, we thought we’d take a look back and recognize some of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce’s highlights of 2014.

We led off the year with a venture to Google, and then threw our support behind efforts to preserve coastal open space and continue important city services, received more than 100 mentions throughout the U.S. recognizing the greatness of SLO, and watched volunteers donate more than 1,000 hours of their time. It’s safe to say that the SLO Chamber is wrapping up a pace-setting year.

It’s the strength and diversity of the community and all of our members, volunteers and staff that makes the following possible. Thanks for another great year.

  • In January, 2014 we launched Insight Studio, a sold out, five-event business education series, which included a trip to Google’s famed Mountain View campus.
  • Over the course of several months we successfully advocated for the creation of a citizens’ oversight commission, fiscal dashboard and accountability tools around Measure G, the renewal of the half-percent sales tax. The Chamber helped lead the successful passage of Measure G in the City of San Luis Obispo, which was approved by more than 70 percent of voters in November.
  • The Chamber’s Land Use and Circulation Element task force contributed numerous recommendations that were adopted as updates to this portion of the city’s 20-year General Plan.
  • As part of our economic vision to protect our region’s scenic beauty, quality of life and provide attractive tourist destinations, we supported funding from the City of SLO and Pismo Beach for the establishment of the Pismo Preserve.
  • In our effort to promote our community, we led the city’s public relations efforts securing well over 100 placements in more than 50 national publications, including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Travel & Leisure Magazine, Fodor’s, USA Today, Rand McNally, The Guardian UK and PeterGreenberg.com.
  • Our Visitor Center staff greeted more than 76,000 walk-in guests, providing them with excellent customer experiences, and making referrals to local businesses to visitors and residents alike.
  • Our Chamber Ambassadors provided more than 1,100 hours to help ensure better member experience and successful Chamber events.

Thank you for your commitment in joining us in our mission to make San Luis Obispo the best possible environment for people to live, raise their families and pursue their passions in the place they love. We appreciate what we’ve accomplished together, and are looking forward to supporting your success in 2015.
