‘Tis the season for recaps, top 10s (or 14s), drawing attention to achievements, lists of highlights, and accounts of accomplishments from the past 12 months. It’s a time to look back, reminisce and maybe relive some of the good, shrug at the bad and maybe give a little giggle about the ugly.
Not from us, and not today. That list will be released in a couple days.
Today we look forward. To do so we asked our five incoming board members to answer two questions.
Jill Bolster-White, executive director, Transitions-Mental Health Association
What hopes do you have for SLO County in 2015?
I hope that everyone in San Luis Obispo realizes that each and every one of us has a stake in the health and well-being of our communities and that we look at what benefits the greater good. We all have a stake in a growing economy, high caliber education, a thriving environment and help for community members in need – we cannot lose sight of our interconnectedness.
My personal resolution for 2015 is…
For 2015, I hope to arrive on time . . . and surprise everyone!
Dawna Davies, broker and owner, Davies Company Real Estate
What hopes do you have for SLO County in 2015?
Real estate buyers and sellers will become more confident, resulting in more seller-financing transactions, better maintained properties and more exchanges for investors. As values increase, local schools will get increased funding through property taxes.
My personal resolution for 2015 is to find ways to make a positive impact on issues affecting business and real estate in San Luis Obispo. On a personal note, I resolve to hike the remaining trails that I have not explored in SLO County…. at sunrise.
Geri LaChance, president and CEO, SESLOC Federal Credit Union
My hope for SLO County in 2015 is for abundant rainfall to help replenish much-needed reserves. I was probably the only one in 2014 not complaining about the drought because it caused no rain delays on our headquarters construction. Hoping the skies open now.
My personal resolution for 2015 is to remind myself that wonderful Edna Valley wine really doesn’t count as a fruit serving on Weight Watchers.
Andy Pease, principal, In Balance Green Consulting
What hopes do you have for SLO County in 2015?
My hope is that as a county we remember our shared appreciation for our beautiful Central Coast and our common goals for economic, social and environmental sustainability. I think we can have differences of opinions and healthy, even boisterous, discussions on how to achieve our goals, while listening to each other, remaining respectful and having fun together too.
My personal resolution for 2015 is to further develop my leadership skills, including listening more and talking less, practicing patience and seeking out voices that may not be heard as often. Plus, with two daughters in high school, including one getting ready to graduate in June, I hope to practice listening and remembering patience at home too!
Ty Safreno, CEO Trust Automation
What hopes do you have for SLO County in 2015?
That the many different organizations located in the county focused on business and economic improvement can find common ground so that duplicate efforts are reduced and a unified and trusting support structure forms that accelerates any given effort. We are too small of a community to be diluted by duplicate efforts, but instead we need to focus on how all the groups can best improve the Economic Future of San Luis Obispo County and insure a prosperous future for the next generation.
My Personal Resolution for the new year is…
Less fire fighting, more planning; less impromptu, more agendas; less Franks Hot Dogs, more salads.
