The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce recently named Pam Roberts its new Visitor Center manager. Roberts will oversee the SLO Chamber’s Visitor Center, which serves more than 75,000 customers annually, and acts as a hub of information for visitors and residents alike.
“We’re thrilled to have someone of Pam’s caliber, with direct visitor center experience, and a strong retail background, continue to elevate how we serve our members and our community,” said SLO Chamber President and CEO Ermina Karim. “Pam’s breadth of experience in tourism marketing, event planning, management and visual merchandising gives her a unique and powerful skillset that will deliver the kind of exceptional one-on-one experience we strive to provide to each person we serve in the Visitor Center.”
Roberts joins the Chamber with more than 18 years of tourism marketing and retail experience, most recently managing the California Welcome Center in Pismo Beach – the busiest in the chain of state-run information centers.
Before her time at the California Welcome Center, Roberts spent six years in Wellington New Zealand helping to coordinate large scale events such as Harvest Crusade, which saw more than 12,000 attendees. Roberts also owned her own retail and design business, and taught art and floral design at the San Luis Obispo Adult School.
“I’m excited to bring my experience and passion for tourism, retail and merchandising into the Visitor Center,” Roberts said. “It’s truly a dream to live in such a beautiful place and get to share it with people from around the world.”
As a community leader, Roberts was the vice president of Friends of the Chapman house, sat on the Pismo Beach Amgen Life Style Board in 2014 and coordinated the 2008 Women’s Conference. Roberts has also volunteered with the American Association of University Women, acting as a docent for historical homes to fundraise scholarships for young college-bound women.
