luna red Sustainability, preservation & scratch cookery – just a few of the culinary ideologies that Chef Shaun Behrens dedicates himself to. After a short hiatus, Luna Red is ecstatic to announce his return and some new changes to the restaurant.

Shaun helped conceptualize and launch Luna Red back in 2010, where his seasonal menus offered an international array of flavors that celebrated the bounty of the Central Coast. In 2017, Shaun left Luna Red to help open Blue Heron Restaurant in Baywood-Los Osos. Here he could teach his culinary skills and foster the perfect experience: grassroots cooking. After almost two years away, Shaun is back to apply his many years of experience, sustainable approach and culinary philosophies to Luna Red.

Shaun has re-imagined Luna’s current menus, amplifying their sustainable practices and grounding them in their scratch-cookery foundation. With the new menu launching end of July, he’s offering dishes that offers palpable excitement, full bodied flavor, and even a bit of intrigue (charred octopus tacos, for example). Enjoy dishes like sticky fried mary’s organic chicken, blistered shishito peppers with chèvre & pistachio pesto, braised pork shoulder served with jalapeño spoonbread, and stuffed trout from Riverence Farm (an industry-leading, sustainable aquaculture farm).

Luna Red brunch will be moved to Sundays only from 10am – 2pm where they will be offering $4 mimosas alongside new dishes such as avocado + pistachio pesto benedict, bread pudding french toast, and watermelon & cucumber salad.

With every visit to Luna Red, there’s celebration – of the food, the energy, the culture and the people with whom they share the table. Shaun’s conceptualized paella party will capture this celebration into an event on the patio. Enjoy made-to-order classic paella on the patio with live music from talented, local artists every Sunday from 2pm-4pm. Transport yourself to Spain for a few hours and partake in your share of their authentic paella, family-style farm salad, and a glass of their house sangria.

Lastly, Luna Red is bringing night bites to their 21+ late night scene, Luna Noche, so guests can enjoy a late night bite while enjoying farm-to-glass cocktails after hitting the dancefloor.
