Local history buff, Phil Tillman, will talk about the contribution of the Chinese to the Central Coast Area and especially our local railroads. Why did they come here, what did they do while they lived here, and why did so many of them leave? His talk will begin at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum, 1940 Santa Barbara Avenue, at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 20th.
Then, at 11 am, to celebrate the new Year of the Monkey, everyone will be invited to see the Cal Poly Lion Dance group perform a traditional Lion Dance at the Museum. To bring yourself good luck throughout the coming year, bring a Chinese coin (or a dollar bill) to stuff into the lion’s mouth while he dances and roars at you. This group performs with two lions and full traditional accompaniment. Bring your cameras to remember this energetic and exciting performance as they bless the Museum for the coming year.
Admission to the Museum is $3 for adults, $2 for children, free to 3 years and under. For more information contact SLO Railroad Museum at 805-548-1894 or email [email protected].
