In keeping with the tradition of the American Public Works Association (APWA), those who work in professions providing and maintaining public facilities and services will be honored during National Public Works Week, May 15 through May 21, 2016. This year’s theme is, “Public Works, Always There.” The public is invited to participate in activities and programs scheduled for the week celebrating the contributions of public works professionals in the communities they serve.
Local activities scheduled for National Public Works Week include a Proclamation presentation by Mayor Jan Marx at the May 17th city council meeting at 6 p.m. Public Works representatives from local city and county agencies will display equipment and information at Thursday night’s, May 12th, Farmers’ Market.
Public works professionals include people who manage trees, parks, streets, public transportation, parking operations and wastewater systems, in addition to those who maintain public buildings as well as engineers and inspectors who manage capital improvement projects. Public works professionals are the people who maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health and comfort.
