Small business owner and candidate for Assembly, Jordan Cunningham, has announced the endorsement of Atascadero City Council Member Brian Sturtevant in his campaign to represent District 35 in the State Assembly. First elected in 2010, Sturtevant served on the Planning Commission from 2008 to 2010. He emphasizes maintaining a “business-friendly” city by loosening regulations and laying groundwork to attract new businesses where both new and existing businesses are able to thrive. He advocates for a sense of community between the council, staff and people of Atascadero, creating a “we” mentality. The former mayor pro tem was re-elected to the council in 2014. He works as a mechanical maintenance supervisor at Diablo Canyon Power Plant.“Jordan Cunningham is the sort of leader the entire Central Coast needs to represent us in the State Assembly,” Sturtevant said. “We need a voice in Sacramento. Jordan will be that voice.”
Cunningham aims to enact policies to keep the district safe and prosperous by disarming dangerous criminals while keeping second amendment rights intact. He also hopes to expand opportunity by advocating for education reform while fighting for the interests of hard-working families and taxpayers. He is a supporter of protecting Proposition 13, shielding homeowners from higher taxes. He is also focused on the issues of water storage, infrastructure, and desalination, and government waste. After graduating from Atascadero High School, Cunningham graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a degree in physics. He then served as a Senate Fellow in the California Legislature, working for the Senate Minority Leader on policy and legislation before he obtained his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduation, Cunningham worked in Washington D.C. as an attorney in private practice, a federal law clerk, and an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. He later returned home to become a Deputy District Attorney in the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. He compiled a stellar trial record, prosecuting a wide variety of crimes including fraud, assault, domestic violence, and environmental crimes.
