Nonprofits that promote the optimal health, stability, independence and well-being of county residents have six weeks to apply for a substantial grant offered annually by the County of San Luis Obispo.
The Community Based Organizations and Preventative Health Grants are awarded to local programs that support and complement (but do not duplicate) the efforts of the County’s health and human services departments in promoting the optimal health, stability, independence and well-being of county residents. Both public and private nonprofit organizations may apply, but programs and projects must be carried out in San Luis Obispo County.
The County will hold a public meeting to provide valuable details about the application process, criteria for funding, and answers to questions, on Jan. 8, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the County Government Center, 1055 Monterey Street, D430 (fourth floor), in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Grant applications will be reviewed by the CBO/PHG Review Committee, which is made up of representatives appointed by the Adult Policy Council, the Behavioral Health Advisory Board, the Health Commission and the Children’s Services Network. This committee will make recommendations to the County Administrative Officer and the Board of Supervisors for grants awarded during Fiscal Year 2016-17.
Last year, the County received 70 project proposals requesting $2 million from 48 nonprofit organizations, and it awarded approximately $1.3 million in grant funding to assist more than 40 local community-based organizations and preventative health programs by providing financial support for essential services not provided by the County.
