The County of San Luis Obispo is closing more parks and adding some daily visitor limits, because park visitors are not observing a safe six feet of physical distance from others. These actions are intended to limit the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in San Luis Obispo County.
“While we would normally want people using our parks, we cannot allow visitors to use the parks in a way that jeopardizes the community’s health,” said County Parks Director Nick Franco. “Your cooperation and respect for physical distancing will allow us to keep the remaining parks open in a limited capacity. Please be smart and think of your community’s safety before going to the park.”
Cave Landing Road and parking lot will close on Thursday until further notice. After reports of a recent large gathering that violated the County’s Emergency Shelter at Home order, the County is closing Cave Landing Road and Parking Lot to vehicle access in coordination with the Port San Luis Harbor District, effective Thursday, April 9. The closure allows residents to still hike to the beach on established trails if they can maintain six feet of distance from others.
Lopez Lake and Santa Margarita Lake has set vehicle limits until further notice. In response to difficulty maintaining physical distance at Lopez Lake and Santa Margarita Lake, County Parks has limited the number of vehicles allowed at each lake at any one time. Santa Margarita Lake is limited to 86 vehicles, 26 of which may be trailers with boats. Lopez Lake is limited to 320 vehicles, 50 of which may be trailers with boats. Any vehicles arriving after this capacity has been reached will be turned away.
Los Osos Skate Park is closed until further notice. As people using the park have not maintained a safe six feet of physical distance, the Los Osos Skate Park is now closed. The County attempted to address this challenge through signage and ranger interactions with people using the skate park.
County Parks may enact further restrictions as the situation evolves or if residents do not adhere to physical distancing requirements at parks.
