Cuesta CollegeCuesta College celebrated the reopening of the Aquatics Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community event on Friday, June 14th.

“This ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrates a major enhancement to the San Luis Obispo Campus, but it also represents the culmination of several years of planning and hard work and our promise to the residents of San Luis Obispo County that their local Measure L tax dollars are improving their community’s college,” said Dr. Jill Stearns, Cuesta College Superintendent/President.

The Measure L-funded project includes upgrades to a 50-meter competition-sized pool along with an expanded 25-yard teaching pool. Other improvements incorporated accessibility upgrades as well as new diving boards and starting blocks. Construction began in May 2018 and finished on time and on budget in May of 2019.

Cuesta“The Aquatics Center will have a tremendous impact on our athletics teams,” said Cuesta College Athletics Director Bob Mariucci. “On behalf of all of our coaches, instructors, and student-athletes, I want to thank all of those that have been involved in this wonderful project. Cuesta College has such a rich history and tradition of our Aquatics programs, and this beautiful new facility will allow us to continue that excellence for many years to come.” The Cuesta College aquatic sports teams, including men’s and women’s swimming and water polo, have produced over 150 All-American swimmers in the last 40 years.

The pool is also available to students and the community through kinesiology and community program classes.
