The San Luis Obispo Symphony offers extensive music education activities reaching more than 16,000 children and adults every year. As part of this strong and lasting commitment to music education in our community, the Symphony presents its annual Apex for Kids Family Concert and Children’s Concert at the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center this month.
The program, “The Sounds of Music – Take me to Broadway” features favorites from West Side Story, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and many more gems of family entertainment. The Central Coast Children’s Choir, The Cuesta Chamber Singers, Trevyn Wong, Mark Padgett, and Inga Swearingen will join the Symphony as special guests.
The Family Concert takes place on Sunday, March 30. The lobby opens at 2 p.m. with pre-concert activities for children and adults of all ages. The music begins at 3 p.m. This memorable and delightful concert will captivate and enrich the lives of each and every family member.
On Monday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m, the Children’s Concert will entertain as well as educate. This performance is designed primarily for large groups from local schools, however individual tickets are available for home-school families and others.
The Apex for Kids Concerts are presented as a living legacy of Gerry and Peggy Peterson. These concerts celebrate San Luis Obispo County Music Education Day (March 31, 2014) which was recently proclaimed in honor of Maestro Michael Nowak’s 30th Anniversary with the Symphony.
