San Luis Obispo High School parents will host a Barn Bash party at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, to directly benefit the high school’s award-winning FFA agricultural program.
The annual event will feature Monte Mills and The Lucky Horseshoe Band, western-style dancing, a full barbecue dinner, beer, wine and a live and silent auction. Tickets cost $50.
This year’s live and silent auction features many items handmade by SLO High students, including a wagon wheel porch swing and a wine barrel rocking chair. Other notable items vary from a Winery Getaway to 1 Dozen Fresh Eggs per month for a year.
Monte Mills—one of the best and last yodeling cowboys—has become an icon of the California Central Coast, introducing thousands of Cal Poly students to western music and helping keep country music alive on the Central Coast.
SLO High’s agricultural education program is built on three major components: 1) quality classroom instruction in and about agriculture that utilizes a “learn by doing” philosophy, 2) Supervised Agriculture Experience projects that encourage work-based learning, and 3) participation in FFA leadership activities, designed to encourage and enhance public speaking skills.
San Luis FFA students regularly place in the top tier at various public speaking and other agriculturally-related competitions across the state. The program recently earned top marks as one of the best FFA chapters in California.
With Agriculture Education funding being potentially cut from the California State budget, these parents feel it is more important than ever to raise funds and awareness to continue this excellent program.
