Motor oil, cookie d’oh, butterfinger blast and birthday cake are just some of the favorite signature flavors made by Doc Burnstein’s Ice Cream Lab. Now comes strawberry kiwi melody, a delicious sherbet made in honor of the San Luis Obispo Symphony’s new music director and New Zealand native Andrew Sewell.

The new strawberry kiwi sherbet is a limited edition flavor, and will only be served on two days in October; on the 9th at the San Luis Obispo store (860 Higuera Street) and the 19th at the Arroyo Grande store (114 W. Branch Street) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Proceeds from the strawberry kiwi melody sale will serve as a fundraiser for the Youth Symphony and benefit music education programs, furthering the SLO Symphony’s mission to bringing classical music and music education to the local community.

“It’s quite extraordinary to have a sherbet flavor especially made to welcome me to the community,” said Sewell. “I’m excited about this partnership with Doc Burnstein’s to help raise funds for our Youth Symphony. I know all of our students and supporters are going to love this. I hope everyone will come out and give it a try.”

As part of the festivities each evening, there will be celebrity scoopers and a small group of Youth Symphony orchestra members will play a few classical music selections at each location. Maestro Sewell will be scooping on Monday, October 9th in San Luis Obispo and Youth Symphony members will be scooping in Arroyo Grande on Thursday, October 19th.

“It’s our pleasure to welcome Andrew Sewell to the San Luis Obispo community with this unique flavor,” said Greg Steinberger, Doc Burnstein’s founder. “AS part of your mission as a Beneficial Corporation, we’re delighted that we can contribute to the local Youth Symphony, and foster music education for our local students with these two special fundraising nights. Together, strawberry kiwi melody and classical music are a definite hit!”
